Description	ESRI Data & Maps 9.3, 2008. USA ESRI Data & Maps 9.3 is a 5 DVD set containing basemap and thematic data, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) imagery, US Census geography and the Tele Atlas 2003-based StreetMap North America. Contents: This subset of ESRI Data & Maps 9.3 includes basemap files for the United States. Data files include: Background: Major bays; North American Countries, excluding USA; and 30-degree grid of the world. Census: area codes; blocks with population (2000); block groups with population (2000, 2007), racial and age breakdown, and number of households; census tracts with population (2000, 2007), racial and age breakdown, number of households; places (cities, towns, villages) with population (2000), housing units and square miles (points); cities with population (2000, 2007), racial and age breakdown, and number of households (points); urban areas with population (2000); core based statistical areas (CBSA) with population (2007); congressional districts (109th and 110th Congress) counties with population (2000, 2007), racial and age breakdown, number of households, and farm data; county boundaries; states with population (2000, 2007), racial and age breakdown, number of households, and farm data; state boundaries; 3-digit zip code boundaries with population (2007); 5-digit zip code boundaries with population (2007); and zip code centroids. Hydrology: rivers, streams and lakes. Landmarks: public buildings; cemeteries; churches; hospitals; locales (shopping centres, points of interest, etc.); populated places; schools; institutions; landmarks; golf courses; parks; recreational areas; mountain peaks; significant US Earthquakes 1568-2004; and volcanoes (covering North America). Other: Federal lands; Public Land Survey System (PLSS); State Plane Zones (NAD27 and NAD83); and USGS topo quad indexes (1:24,000, 1:100,000, and 1:250,000). Transportation: airports; rail lines; transit stations/terminals (rail and bus); major roads; highways; and Interstates. USA Layers and MXDs: USA Base Map (.axl, .lyr, .mxd, .pmf) (available only through GIS Librarian) and USA Thematic Maps (.axl, .lyr, .mxd, .pmf) (available only through GIS Librarian). These files link to various SDC files throughout the dataset, and so are only useful when accompanied by the entire dataset. Formats: The basemap data files are in ESRI’s Smart Data Compression (SDC) format. This format can be read directly in ArcGIS software. Layer files (.lyr), which provide pre-selected graphics for display in ArcGIS software, are included with the data. Individual ZIP files contain data files in SDC format, associated layer files, and metadata. Users who wish to obtain the entire dataset should contact the GIS Librarian. The Data Distribution Application (DDA) can be used to convert data from SDC format into shapefiles without using ArcGIS. This can be found by searching ABACUS for ESRI Data and Maps 9.3, 2008 - DDA Tool. The tool should be used in conjunction with the entire dataset.
