The study was conducted by Daniel J. Koenig, from the Department of Sociology at the University of Victoria. The data was collected through mail questionnaires using a random sample of voters on the 1974 federal voters lists for B.C.
This is part of a continuing series of surveys which were intended to evaluate satisfactions and dissatisfactions of British Columbia voters. This survey is concerned primarily with assessing the quality of life and desires of British Columbians and with evaluation recent changes in the policies and practices of the provincial Department of Human Resources.
Variables include: opinions of Department of Human Resources, including elimination of elected community resource boards and information referral centres, new social assistance policies, collection agency for alimony and maintenance payments, audit teams, fraud investigators, Provincial Rehabilitation Employment Programme, welfare costs; Guaranteed Available Income for Need Act, subsidies for prescription drugs, children; overall opinion on welfare practices in B.C., minimum monthly income assistance; R's opinion on stresses in his life; provincial and federal vote intention.
Demographic data: sex, age, marital status, no. of persons in household, relation to head of household, no. of children living at home, education, gross family income, organizational memberships, place of residence, religion.
