The survey was conducted by Andrew S. Harvey, David H. Elliott, Dimitri Procos. The data was collected from a multi-stage random sample using personal interviews.
The study was designed to produce tie-budget data fully comparable with that of the Multinational time-budget survey.
Additional data of an attidudinal nature comparable with previously collected data from the United states (Citizen attitude survey, 1970) were collected for policy and planning purposes.
Variables include: details of sample and interview; no. persons in household; no. persons employed, over 65, under 18; R's age, employment status, average hours worked per week; full or part-time work; no. years at present job; relationship to head of household; motor vehicles used by house; place of work; distance home to place of work; time to get to work; time of departure for work; frequency of spare time; day of week of diary filling; weather on diary day; work status of diary day; sex; race; marital status; education; years at university; highest academic qualification; total family income; income of head of family; religion; length of time in present building; tenure; type of dwelling; no. of apartments; access to outdoor space; rooms in dwelling; monthly rent, utilities; SES; time per activity during diary day: working and related time, domestic work, care to children, purchasing of goods and services, private needs (meals, sleep, etc.), adult education and professional training, civic and collective participation activities, spectacles, entertainment, social life, active leisure, passive leisure.
Activity coding includes primary activity, secondary activity, with whom or in the presence of whom activity occurred, and site of the activity.
