The study was conducted by principal investigators, Robert M. Taylor and M. Jill Weldon for the British Columbia Post-Secondary Education Enrollment Forecasting Committee.
The data was collected through mail questionnaires from a random sample of students registered at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria in January of 1982.
A survey of students at each of the three major universities in British Columbia was conducted by the BCFC [British Columbia Post-Secondary Education Enrollment Forecasting Committee?] in January of 1982. The major objective of the study was to provide basic information on students at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria to aid university administrators in their planning function.
Variables include: university R is presently attending, sex, year of birth, faculty; department, program; current undergraduate year; highest degree held; prior institution attended; preferred choice of university; reasons for choosing present university; year of first enrollment at university; expected year of graduation; time of decision to attend university; full or part-time student; reasons for studying part-time; reasons for pursuing a university education; present educational activities; ultimate goal; frequency of use, quality, accessibility of campus services, including library, bookstore, academic advising, computing facilities, career counselling, daycare, housing, health services, food services, personal counselling, traffic, study space, chaplain, student services; most important university services; troublesome problems this academic year, preferred times to take courses; size of community for secondary school; accommodation; transportation to campus; employment status; major activities 1981; marital status; number of dependents; money needed to attend university this year; 1981 gross family income; means of financing education this year; postal code of residence, of permanent home address; questionnaire round completed; length of university study; age category.
