1968-1974
This dataset contains a variety of political and socioeconomic information for ridings created by the 1966 redistribution act, excluding those in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Riding boundaries correspond to those used in the federal elections of 1968, 1972, and 1974. Total n=262.
Election data for 1968 and 1972 are based on data from relevant reports of the chief electoral officer, those for the 1974 election are from the table appended to the electoral map produced by the department of mines, energy and resources following that election.
All constituency-level census data (records 5 to 8) were produced by the principal investigator by aggregating enumeration area data provided by Statistics Canada for the 1971 census.
In addition to census and election data the dataset contains figures on constituency-level allocations under the local initiatives program for selected years.
